Velvet Pine Skin is an independent K-beauty review blog written by Valentino Rodrigues.

I started this blog because too many skincare reviews are written after a single application — or worse, from reading the ingredient list alone. That's not how skin works. Products need time to show what they actually do, and that's what I give them.

Every review on this site is based on a minimum two-week wear test under real-world conditions: office days, outdoor exposure, different climates, and different skin states (including deliberately compromised skin when testing products meant for sensitive types).

I focus on Korean skincare (K-beauty) because South Korea's regulatory standards for sunscreen and cosmetic safety are among the most rigorous in the world, and the formulation philosophy — gentle, layered, barrier-first — aligns with how I approach skin health.

What I Review

Essences, moisturizers, sunscreens, serums, and cleansers — the foundational pieces of a skincare routine. I don't review makeup or trend-chasing novelty products. If it's not something I'd use in my own routine long-term, it's not something I'll review.

My Approach

• No affiliate links. I buy every product I review. My opinions aren't influenced by commissions.
• Ingredient-level analysis. I don't just tell you if a product feels nice — I explain why, based on the actual chemistry.
• Pros and cons honestly stated. No product is perfect. I won't pretend otherwise.
• Skin context disclosed. You'll always know what skin type and condition I was testing under, so you can judge whether my experience applies to yours.
